Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Regional festivals are a critical part of cultural identity, providing a platform for communities to celebrate traditions and foster unity. In Gassol Local Government Area, festivals such as the Puje Festival attract both local and regional attention, showcasing traditional music, dance, and arts. However, the success of these festivals often depends on effective promotion, which enhances attendance and attracts tourism. Television, with its visual appeal and wide reach, has proven to be a powerful medium for promoting such events. Studies, such as those by Daramola and Usman (2024), highlight television’s ability to create awareness, build anticipation, and preserve cultural heritage through event coverage. This study examines the effectiveness of television in promoting regional festivals in Gassol, emphasizing its impact on cultural preservation and economic growth.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the cultural significance of festivals in Gassol, many remain under-promoted, limiting their reach and economic potential. While television provides an excellent platform for showcasing these events, its role in promoting regional festivals in Gassol has not been adequately explored.
